Ending 2013 Journeys

Written on December 31, 2013

I serendipitously was able to meet up with a professional contact in Kerikeri since he happened to live on the peninsula bordering the town. It was a lovely chat… perfect timing as well.

Lunch was at Cafe Jerusalem, a Middle-eastern restaurant where the girls and I ordered chicken shishliks (my first time having them). They basically were chicken pitas with coleslaw and sauce… delicious for $10 (still missing the cheap prices of food back home, especially since I track my finances daily).

We also stopped at a container store. This organization geek was in heaven. Not quite Ikea or The Container Store, but it’ll do. Colors and storage units… great enough to make me smile.

Every life needs ORGANIZATION.

I went with the boys to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug again at the 8pm showing in order to get through until about 11pm without falling asleep (Sidenote: My body is trained to knock out around 10:30 or 11 now). After all, I wanted to be awake for my first NYE in NZ!

We’re 21 hours ahead of CA and ahead of the entire world as well when it comes to celebrating holidays. Thus, we’re the first to enter 2014, which is quite exciting!

We drove to Paihia around 11:30pm to watch fireworks on the waterfront/by the pier. I’ve never seen so many people in my life in one tiny area of NZ…
